President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a fresh batch of ambassadorial nominees to the Nigerian Senate for screening and confirmation.

The latest list, which was presented to the upper legislative chamber on Thursday, December 4, includes four prominent Nigerians with extensive backgrounds in government and military service.

Among those nominated for non-career ambassadorial positions is Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, a retired Vice Admiral who served as the immediate past Sole Administrator of Rivers State. Ibas, who previously held the office of Chief of Naval Staff, is widely recognized for his military and administrative experience.

Also on the list is retired Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Dambazau, who has served Nigeria both as Minister of Interior and as Chief of Army Staff during previous administrations.

The President equally nominated Ita Enang, a former Senator who also served as Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on National Assembly Matters (Senate), bringing his legislative expertise to the diplomatic fold.

Completing the quartet is Chioma Ohakim, who served as First Lady of Imo State when her husband, Ikedi Ohakim, was governor of the state.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio read President Tinubu’s correspondence during Thursday’s plenary session. In the letter, the President appealed to lawmakers to expedite the confirmation process to enable the government fill strategic diplomatic positions without delay.

Responding to the request, Akpabio immediately referred the nominees to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. The committee has been directed to conduct the necessary screenings and submit its report within one week.

These nominations represent the latest addition to President Tinubu’s diplomatic appointees, as the administration continues to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign missions across the globe.
