The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has expressed profound grief over the abduction of 25 female students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The incident, which occurred during a pre-dawn attack on Monday, November 17, 2025, also claimed the life of the school’s Vice Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, who was shot dead while attempting to protect the students from armed bandits.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Senator Tinubu described the attack as a devastating assault on the nation’s educational system and the fundamental right of children to learn in safety.
“I am deeply saddened by the news of the abduction of the 25 students of the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State and the tragic killing of the Vice Principal,” the First Lady stated.
She characterized the incident as “not only an attack on innocent girls and dedicated educators, but an assault on the values of safety and learning that schools embody.”
According to police reports, the heavily armed bandits stormed the school around 4:00 am, wielding sophisticated weapons and firing sporadically. Police tactical units deployed at the school engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, but the assailants had already scaled the school fence and abducted the students from their hostel before fleeing to an unknown location.
The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar Kotarkoshi, confirmed that another staff member, Ali Shehu, sustained a gunshot injury to his right hand during the attack.
Senator Tinubu revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed security agencies to take immediate action to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted girls and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Mr President has already ordered our security agencies to ensure the quick and safe return of the abducted girls and to bring the perpetrators to justice,” she said.
The First Lady extended her heartfelt sympathies to the families, friends, and schoolmates of the victims during this difficult period.
“My heart and prayers are with the families, friends, loved ones and schoolmates at this time. I pray almighty God grants quick rescue to the abducted girls and may the soul of the departed Vice Principal rest in Aljannah Firdaus,” Senator Tinubu added.
