Makinde Hails Ibadan 2025 Convention as the PDP’s Turning Point

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party 2025 National Convention in Ibadan will be remembered as the defining point that restores the party’s strength and influence nationwide.

Makinde, who welcomed delegates at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex in Adamasingba, described PDP members as resilient individuals who have endured several internal battles to reach the stage where the party can successfully host a national convention. He expressed confidence that the Ibadan gathering would begin a new chapter for the party at the national level. The governor also encouraged visitors to enjoy Ibadan’s popular delicacies, including amala and gbegiri.

The Chairman of the National Convention Organising Committee and Governor of Adamawa State, Umaru Fintiri, stated that Nigerians are looking to the PDP to provide solutions to the country’s current challenges. He emphasized that the party must reinvent itself and confront the realities that have affected its stability in recent years. Fintiri acknowledged issues such as declining loyalty and internal division but said the party’s core values remain intact through members who have stayed committed to its mission.

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, speaking for the PDP Governors’ Forum, noted that the party has arrived at the convention as a united front with a clear determination to safeguard Nigeria’s future. He urged delegates to give full support toward building a stronger party.

The Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara, expressed satisfaction that the Ibadan convention became a reality. He described the event as proof of the party’s resilience and commitment to strengthening democracy. Wabara also encouraged the incoming National Working Committee to promote inclusive leadership and maintain continuous consultations.
